Teresa (Terry) Gillis litigates corporate, securities, fraud, contract and other complex commercial cases, and represents individuals and corporations in regulatory matters, investigations and proceedings. Ms. Gillis has represented clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, including securities fraud claims, shareholder derivative actions, corporate governance, shareholder partnership and disputes, trust litigation, D&O insurance coverage and indemnification claims, employment claims, commercial lease and asset-backed securities litigation, Ponzi schemes and receiverships, and product warranty claims. Ms. Gillis has represented clients in state and federal courts as well as in arbitration and mediation before the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and other organizations.

Ms. Gillis previously was an associate with Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C., representing policyholders in insurance coverage litigation under commercial general liability and directors' and officers' liability policies, among other matters. Ms. Gillis also served as a partner and associate with Shustak, Jalil & Heller in San Diego, California, where she represented investors and others in securities arbitrations, shareholder disputes, corporate and securities litigations and regulatory matters.

Ms. Gillis's recent work includes advising clients on and litigating claims involving employment disputes, securities matters and defamation; analysis of potential litigation involving trustees' breaches of loyalty and fiduciary duty, RICO claims and other matters; bringing a derivative action on behalf of shareholders against the officers and directors of a public corporation for waste of assets and breach of fiduciary duty; representing minority shareholders in privately held corporations subject to freezeout transactions; and arbitrating the claims of individuals against brokerage firms with respect to investment losses and brokerage employment disputes.

Terry Gillis earned her J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the Washington College of Law at American University in 1991, and her B.A. in Economics and Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1981.

She is admitted to the State Bar of California and District of Columbia (inactive), as well as to the United States District Courts for the District of Columbia, Southern District Court of California, and Central District Court of California. Ms. Gillis is a member of the Public Investors' Arbitration Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association.
